hello, you wonderful human.
as I’m writing this last newsletter of the year, I am recovering from an evil cold and looking back on a wild month and a full year. Remembering this moment in November where I was still thinking: how nice to fade out the year in a slower notion than usual. Oh well, maybe next year.
This month has been one of those, where all of a sudden busyness exploded simultaneously to the structures we’ve build for life & work just crumbling down. I had the awareness of lacking in between moments and no capacity at all to create it. Sometimes that’s just how it is and we’re being asked to go with the flow. And go to bed earlier.
So as the holidays are just upon our doorstep I am in deep anticipation of taking this in between time. No meetings to attend, no schedules to juggle, nothing to postpone – just being and savoring the last days of the year.
How are you approaching the coming days and weeks; this time of transition?
This idea of the in between, of being in transition, is something that keeps coming back me. We are never static. We are always evolving, even when we don’t realise it. And yet, it’s such a challenge to practice awareness. The summer retreat I taught this year was dedicated to the in between and years ago, as part of my advanced yoga certification I wrote an essay about it.
You can read it here, if you like.
In Germany we have this term Zwischen den Jahren, between the years, describing the time between Christmas and the new year. I like it. Just the words are like an invitation to take pause and reflect.
From doing to being. We spend so much time being busy and doing things that we sometimes forget how to take a break, slow down, and simply be. The Japanese concept of Ma describes a pause in time, an interval or emptiness in space. Ma is the time and space life needs to breathe, to feel and connect. If we have no time, if our space is restricted, we cannot grow. This universal principle applies to every aspect of life.
It's a transformative experience to simply pause instead of immediately filling up the space. By waiting, we begin to connect with fundamental restlessness as well as fundamental spaciousness.

This month I had the joy to attend a very special day with the wonderful people of empathic organisation, dedicated to becoming still. It took place within the mystical walls of the feuerle collection, where we explored different approaches of becoming still. Being and observing. It was an experience that touched me on a deeper level. As someone used to teaching, creating and holding space for others, it was so special to just attend an experience like this. Within the December whirlwild this felt like my one, holy moment of being in between.
And because words can’t really do the experience justice, I’ll share a set of questions that might serve you, when you take a moment to become still, between the years.
💙 What did you experience?
💙 What was hard?
💙 What was easy?
💙 What are you taking along with you?
Knowing that you’re out there, reading my thoughts, leaves me with such a special sense of connection. Thank you for being here. ♥️
Wishing you wonderful days filled with rest, joy and love and a smooth transition into the next year.
See you on the other side 💫
Love, K
